Olympic cycling star (Caroline Buchanan) horrifically injured in a car crash
Australian double-Olympian cycling star Caroline Buchanan has shared shocking photos and videos of her recovery from a life-threatening car crash.
The 27-year-old suffered a broken nose and sternum and a collapsed lung but has had the organ drained and is already planning a comeback.
“I wouldn’t say 2017 ended quite as planned,” the two-wheel star wrote on Instagram. “It’s been a rough couple of days in ICU after a vehicle roll. I just moved to a private room and everything is moving in a positive recovery direction. I will keep you guys up to date as we go … Off season just got a little more tough.”
On her fourth day in the hospital, Buchanan added: “Getting the lung drainage cord out today was the best feeling!”
“Had about 2 liters drained out since my accident….. Been getting read all your amazing messages of support ??❤️ Thank you!!!! Xxx”
The blond bike bombshell is a five-time Mountain Bike World Champion and three-time BMX World Champion.
Local media in Australia claimed the accident involved a single vehicle.
“I think everyone is shocked and upset but we also know Caroline to be quite a fighter, so I personally imagine that she will bounce back very quickly and probably with more resolve than she had before,” family friend Matt Elliston said.
“She’s an icon for us — and she’s very much worthy of that title because of the way she conducts herself and remains very approachable when she is around.”
