Pat Casey, BMX and X Games Rider, Dies After Crash at Slayground

Time2Shine Staff |

The BMX world has lost one of its most fearless riders. Monster Energy BMX pro Pat Casey died after a motorcycle crash at Slayground Motocross Park, a private freestyle motocross facility near Ramona, California.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department reported that the crash happened around 2:45 p.m. while he was attempting a jump. First responders worked to save him, but he was pronounced dead at 3:42 p.m., according to Cal Fire San Diego.

Pat won X Games medals in back-to-back years, 2012 and 2013, and was the first rider to land the decade backflip and the double-decade backflip in competition. He got his start on small ramps his dad built for him.

Our thoughts are with Pat's family, his friends and everyone in the BMX community who rode with him.
