Description
Excess Alloy Lock Ring Kit
Product Overview The Excess Alloy Lock Ring Kit is a replacement aluminum lock ring designed for Excess Pro rear hubs with Shimano-standard cassette compatibility. The kit includes two spacers (0.5mm and 1mm) to accommodate varying cog thicknesses and achieve proper pinion clamping. Sold individually for targeted component replacement.
Key Features
- Aluminum Construction – Lightweight aluminum resists corrosion and provides reliable cog retention without excessive weight; easier on cog threads than steel alternatives
- Shimano-Standard Cassette Compatible – Direct compatibility with any Shimano-style rear cog; works across multiple BMX and general bike cog options
- Precision Threading – Engineered threads match Excess Pro hub specifications for consistent, secure fitment without cross-threading
- Two Included Spacers – Dual spacers (0.5mm and 1mm) enable precise cog seating and proper lock ring clamping across different cog thicknesses
- Clamping Optimization – Spacers ensure even load distribution and prevent cog wobble or shifting during hard acceleration and tricks
- Easy Replacement – Simple installation allows riders to refresh worn or damaged lock rings without full hub service
Technical Specifications
- Material: Aluminum
- Cog Compatibility: Shimano-standard cassette
- Included Spacers: Two (1x 0.5mm, 1x 1mm thickness)
- Hub Compatibility: Excess Pro rear hubs; all Shimano-standard cassette rear hubs

Compatibility and Ideal Use Cases
- Fits: Excess Pro rear hubs; all Shimano-standard cassette rear hubs (Excess, Elevn, Shimano, etc.)
- Best For: Lock ring replacement due to wear, stripping, or damage; optimizing cog seating with spacer selection
- Ideal Riders: All skill levels; those maintaining rear hubs or upgrading worn lock rings
- Installation Requirement: Basic mechanical knowledge; requires cassette removal tool (Park Tool BBT-9 or similar 44mm, 16-notch tool)
- Not Recommended For: Non-Shimano-standard cassette hubs; incompatible hub threading standards
Spacer Selection Guide
- 0.5mm Spacer – Use with thinner cogs or when minimal gap is needed between cog and hub body
- 1mm Spacer – Use with thicker cogs or when additional clearance is required
- Dual Spacers – Combine both spacers (total 1.5mm) for maximum spacing when multiple cogs are stacked or when hub design requires additional clearance
Installation Notes Remove cassette using Park Tool BBT-9 or equivalent 44mm, 16-notch bottom bracket tool. Install selected spacer(s) onto hub before threading lock ring. Hand-tighten lock ring until cog seats firmly; check for wobble or movement. Avoid over-tightening, which can strip threads or crack cog. Verify cog rotation is smooth and free before final assembly.
Maintenance Tip Inspect lock ring and cog threads regularly during hub maintenance. Replace lock ring if threads become stripped, deformed, or if cog develops play or wobble. Clean threads and cog seating surface before installation for optimal fitment and performance.
