Description

Excess Pro Alloy Rear 3/8" Axle For P3x5 R120 Hub

Product Overview The Excess Pro Alloy Rear 3/8" Axle is a replacement axle engineered for Excess Pro 36H P3x5 R120 rear hubs and XLS-2, XLS-3 wheels. The aluminum construction reduces weight while maintaining adequate strength for competitive racing and training. The 10mm BTR (bolt through rotor) screw clamping system enables secure wheel retention on modern disc-brake BMX frames.

Key Features

  • Aluminum Construction – Lightweight alloy reduces overall wheel and bike weight; resists corrosion and maintains durability for extended use
  • 3/8" Diameter – Standard BMX rear axle size compatible with 3/8" bolt dropouts; universal compatibility across BMX frames
  • 10mm BTR Compatibility – Engineered for 10mm bolt through rotor screw clamping system; enables secure wheel retention on disc-brake equipped frames
  • P3x5 R120 Specific – Precision-engineered for Excess Pro 36H P3x5 R120 rear hub specifications; ensures proper bearing and hub body alignment
  • XLS-2 and XLS-3 Wheel Compatible – Direct compatibility with Excess XLS-2 and XLS-3 wheels (406 and 507 ETRTO) rear hub builds across both models
  • Direct Replacement – Drop-in compatibility with original Excess Pro axles; no modification required for installation
  • Lightweight Design – Aluminum material contributes to overall weight reduction without sacrificing structural integrity for racing applications
  • Sold Individually – Purchase single axle for rear wheel or as needed for maintenance

Technical Specifications

  • Material: Aluminum
  • Diameter: 3/8" (10mm)
  • Bolt Standard: 10mm BTR (bolt through rotor) screw clamping
  • Hub Compatibility: Excess Pro 36H P3x5 R120 rear hubs only
  • Wheel Compatibility: Excess XLS-2 and XLS-3 (406 and 507 ETRTO) wheels
  • Size: Pro
  • Manufacturing: Precision-engineered to Excess specifications

Compatibility and Ideal Use Cases

  • Fits: Excess Pro 36H P3x5 R120 rear hubs; Excess XLS-2 and XLS-3 wheels (406 and 507 ETRTO)
  • Best For: Axle replacement due to bending, cracking, or damage; hub rebuild or reassembly; drivetrain upgrades on 20" race bikes
  • Ideal Riders: Competitive 20" racers; riders seeking high-engagement P3x5 R120 performance and lightweight construction
  • Installation Requirement: Basic mechanical knowledge; requires removal and installation with 10mm BTR bolts; disc rotor installation (if needed)
  • Not Recommended For: Other Excess hub models (Mini/Expert, Pro Cromo P3x1 R24); non-10mm bolt standards; non-disc brake frames

Installation Notes Remove rear wheel and disassemble axle from hub. Clean axle seat in frame dropouts. Install new axle through frame dropouts and hub body. Thread 10mm BTR bolts hand-tight through both dropouts into axle. If using disc rotor, install rotor onto axle before final tightening. Tighten progressively in alternating sequence (left-right-left-right) to ensure even clamping pressure and proper wheel alignment. Final tightness should be snug but not excessive—over-tightening can strip threads or crack dropouts.

Maintenance Notes Check 10mm bolt tightness regularly before riding, especially after extended riding sessions or impacts. Loose bolts compromise wheel retention and handling precision. Replace axle if threads become stripped, if axle bends, or if bolts loosen repeatedly despite proper tightening. Verify disc rotor alignment after installation if rotor is installed. If axle becomes bent, replacement is recommended over straightening, as bent axles may cause uneven bearing wear.

Performance Note Properly installed and tightened axle ensures consistent wheel alignment and eliminates lateral play that can affect steering precision and overall bike control—critical for competitive 20" racing performance. The P3x5 R120 engagement system benefits from precise axle alignment for optimal power transfer and responsiveness during gate starts and acceleration.

Compatibility Reminder Compatible with Excess Pro 36H P3x5 R120 rear hubs and XLS-2, XLS-3 wheels (406 and 507 ETRTO) only. Verify your hub model (P3x5 R120) and wheel specification before purchase—incompatible with Mini/Expert, Pro Cromo P3x1 R24, or other Excess rear hub variants.
