Description
S&M Race XLT 8″ Handlebars (Slam Geometry 12°/1°)
The S&M Race XLT is an evolution of the legendary Slam Bars, engineered specifically for BMX racing. Featuring thinner-walled butted tubing with 4-quadrant post-weld heat treatment, these bars optimize the strength-to-weight ratio for competitive racing. The classic Slam geometry with 12° backsweep and 1° upsweep provides the proven hand position racers prefer. Made in the USA.
Key Features
- Butted tubing construction – variable wall thickness removes excess material in low-stress areas while maintaining strength where needed, reducing weight without sacrificing durability
- 4-quadrant post-weld heat treatment – comprehensive heat treatment process increases material strength and fatigue resistance, allowing thinner walls without compromising performance
- Classic Slam geometry – 12° backsweep and 1° upsweep deliver the proven hand position from S&M's legendary Slam Bars, refined over decades of racing
- Lightweight 1.6 lb weight – optimized for racing where every ounce matters, these bars are significantly lighter than standard bars while maintaining race-worthy strength
- Racing-specific dimensions – 8″ rise and 28″ width provide the proportions racers need for aggressive gate starts and efficient power transfer on the track
- 0.625″ crossbar drop – positioned to clear body movement during aggressive pedaling and manualing without interference

Compatibility and Ideal Use
These bars use standard BMX stem clamp diameter (22.2mm) and are compatible with most BMX stems. Best suited for BMX racing where lightweight construction and proven geometry are priorities. The Slam geometry has been refined specifically for gate starts, rhythm sections, and the unique demands of racing—not optimized for street, park, or trails riding where different sweep angles and rise are typically preferred. Ideal for competitive racers who want the strength and reliability of chromoly with minimal weight penalty.
